Runs Claude models on Anthropic's Messages API at `https://api.anthropic.com`. A key from `ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN`, or an access token beginning `sk-ant-oat`, is sent as `Authorization: Bearer`, and any other key as `x-api-key`; name a gateway as the host, as in `anthropic://gateway.example`.

| Option | On Anthropic |
| --- | --- |
| [`tool`](/reference/llm_connections/options#tool) | Every form. A name resolves to the newest version the model takes, such as `web_search_20260209` on Claude 4.6 and newer. Web search is billed per search |
| [`max_tokens`](/reference/llm_connections/options#max_tokens) | 4096 unless set; raise it for a long extraction |
| [`vision`](/reference/llm_connections/options#vision-and-frames) | Every model reads images |
| [`body.<path>`](/reference/llm_connections/options#request-body-fields) | Messages API fields, such as `body.thinking.type=adaptive&body.output_config.effort=high` |
| `header`, `temperature`, `top_p`, `frames`, `timeout`, `insecure` | As [listed](/reference/llm_connections/options) |

## Example

A navigator with the key from `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`:
